Description: The Country Abbey is a wedding chapel for hire. It was formerly First Baptist Church of Justin, TX, until they built a new sanctuary and sold their older building to the Country Abbey. In 2001-2002 I was hired to replace the old 1880's stained glass panels (no painted glass - just simple dark amber/purple Kokomo opalescent glass) with new, bright and festive cathedral glass in various shades of intense cool colors. Color pallet includes dark cranberry, deep turquoise (peacock blue), seafoam green, and dark grape, with the majority of glass being Wissmach clear seedy. This change in glass dramatically lightened the chapel and brought about a fresh, young, and festive feel to the space.
Location: Justin, TX
Date: late 2002 - early 2003
Fabrication & installation: 260+ individual cut rectangles of glass (average size 16" wide x 11 3/4" high) fitted into existing refurbished iron casement frames. The iron frames were hand sanded and painted at the same time the stained glass was installed. This work required the use of multi-story scaffolding inside and outside. Work progressed even through a snow storm. Reglazed windows.
