Project description: Restoration of original stained glass from 1919. Replaced over 280 individual pieces of glass which were broken due to BB shots, baseballs through the windows, and stress breaks due to lead fatigue, wood rot, and/or vandalism damage. Most work occurred on-site, using two-story scaffolding and extension ladders. Four large side panes cut out and repaired in the studio due to window bowing. All work accomplished within 4 months by myself, one part-time stained glass assistant, and my father (for woodworking and panel removal).
Dimensions: over 600 square feet of stained glass
Location: First United Methodist Church of Aubrey, Texas
Date: August - November 2004; window rededication ceremony Dec. 12, 2004
Construction: Leaded windows with iron rebar. Broken painted dedicatory plaque repainted, fired in kiln & restored. New dedicatory plaque added to existing window. Irreplaceable painted window damage (BB holes) repaired with silicone & surface painted to hide damage. All panes cleaned & reputtied.
