Calligrapher, Daniel Reeve We had breakfast with Daniel, a very gentle and talented artist. Here he's signing my "Gollum" DVD booklet, which is part of Special Edition DVD pack for "The Two Towers." I brought it along on the trip just for this. Daniel's using special fonts he created for New Line Cinema for each character, including Smeagol/Gollum. |
Isildur's Book Daniel Reeve brought along originals used in the films. This is the scroll/book of Isildur's account of taking the Ring from Sauron's hand, and tracing the fire letters. Gandalf is reading this book in "The Fellowship of the Ring." |
Original practice sheets These are original sheets used in the movies. On the left is a page from Durin's Book in the Mines of Moria. On the right are a couple of sheets used by Elijah Wood to practice his calligraphy. He is seen writing in the Red Book at the end of "The Return of the King." |
Ring Inscription Samples of the ring inscriptions. The one of the left is for Isildur's book. The one on the right is in Black Speech, and was used for the Ring's engraving and also to be projected across Frodo's face when he's reading the inscription after the Ring has come out of Bag End's fireplace in "The Fellowship of the Ring." |
Saruman's Book Details from various maps and pages in the reference book Saruman is reading in both "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers." |
Whakapapa Ski fields (Mt. Rurapehue) Oops. Forgot to include this photo on page 1. It's a plaque on the ski fields showing film locations shot on the ski field. |
Emyn Muil (Whakapapa ski fields) More from atop the ski fields of Mt. Rurapehue. |
Wellington Airport Yep. That's a tile mural of New Zealand's second favorite son. First is Sir Edmund Hillary, who conquered Mt. Everest, but we'll get to him later. In the center is our North Island tour guide, the fabulous Vic, surrounded by Carmen and Susan. |
